Here is another game that I played over the weekend. For those
who do not know the USCF in conjunction with the ICC hold USCF Quick Rated tourneys
at 5pm Server time (Eastern Time) every Saturday. Yesterday was the first one
that I have played in and I thought that I played pretty well considering that everyone
I played was at least 400 point higher than me. They use your USCF rating to do
the pairings and not everyone has an established rating so you can be paired
with someone who has a 1800 ICC but does not have even a provisional USCF
rating, I believe this is what happened to me and this is why I was playing the
last round with a 600 point rating gap between me and my opponent.
One of my games though I played very well with the black
pieces and aside from one errant move, I calculated it and wrote the move down I
just didn’t play it on the board. I got excited and just plain forgot to make
the move.
The game started off pretty strange, at least to me, with 1.d4
d5 2.e3? I quickly busted out 2… e6 with the idea of getting long lasting
control of the e4 square and using that as a launching point of my future
attack.
