TeamLeague 63 Round One

For the last three weeks I have been playing less blitz as I was on full blown tilt. My Chess24 rating went from my high of nearly 1420 down to under 1000.  Generally, I play about 6 to 8 hours of chess a weekend so I decided to play no more than 5 blitz games a day and to spend the rest of the time studying. Over the last couple of years I have amassed not a bad little library. I like the Move by Move series for the chess openings and have one for each of my favorite opening. I also have the complete Jeremy Silman collection and I am basing my study plan on working my way through his books and problems combined with opening study with the Move by Move and use of Chessbase. I will go into that in more detail as I fully develop a solid plan that works for me.

Today however was the start of the TeamLeauge 63.  I play board 4 for my team in the Polgar section (>1500) my current FICS is 1241. I was matched up with Nitreb and in our previous encounters we have split 1-1 with me having black in both games. Today I was white and planned on using the English opening I have been working on. Looking up my opponent in the FICS database I saw that he has not faced the English in a TeamLeague game for the last two years nor has he played the English so I thought I had a good chance to get an advantage out of the opening.

Here is the game let me know if you do not agree with any of my anyalsis (I will not use my engines for this).

[#] 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.d4 Here g3 and e3 are the most common moves i like this d4 manuover.4... e5 5. Ng5 Bb4 leads to an equal postion 4...exd4

[4...e4 5.Ng5 Bb4 6.d5 Ne5 7.Qd4 d6 8.Ngxe4 Nxe4 9.Qxe4 ]
5.Nxd4 Nxd4 I was shocked by this move, it is common in blitz but i was expecting Bg4 which i would have followed up with Bg5 h6 Bh4 keeping the pin and forcing black to make a descison on his kingside security. 6.Qxd4 Be7 7.Bg5 d6 prepping to kick the Queen i beleive 0-0 would have been much better as his king will get stuck in the center in a few more moves 8.e3 Bf5 9.Nd5 c6
[9...Nxd5 10.Qxd5 Bxg5 11.Qxf5 O-O Here i think black may be slightly better, 12. Bd3 g6 follwed eventually getting the black bishiop on g7should be good for black. White still must 0-0 and black should have the inititive. because of this i took with the Knight]
10.Nxe7 Qa5 wasnt sure about this move, thing it is just not good for black 11.Qc3 didnt mind the dubble pawns, i wanted to keep the option of castleing 11...Qxc3 12.bxc3 Kxe7 13.Be2 h6 14.Bh4 g5 15.Bg3 Ne4 Here i decied to go a little passive with gaurding the c3 pawn, wasnt sure how much better i would have been in this situation 16.Rc1 h5 he is spending a lot of time to wrap up this bishiop but h3 Bh2 and he is safe 17.h3 Nxg3 This allows a nice discovered attack on the Bishop after 0-0. 18.fxg3 Rhd8 free pawn leads to Rf7+ after 0-0 winning the pawn on b7 and i should be able to win the game from there 19.Bxh5 d5 20.O-O Bd3 Black resigned after this move, Bg7 or Be7 leads to a better endgame for black. if i exchange the bishops black has a moster pawn formation on the queenside and white is stuck trying to defend 4 pawn islands
[20...Bd3 21.Rxf7 Kd6 22.cxd5 cxd5 23.Rxb7 White should be able to hold this;
20...Be6 ]
[1-0]
